“The most dangerous drinking game is seeing how long I can go without coffee.”

Sometimes I feel like there is not enough coffee in Colombia to make me a morning person. Plus I’ve learned that it isn’t a good mix for anyone that suffers from anxiety. The caffeine in coffee is a stimulant to your nervous system, which triggers a spiral of different sensations that can actually cause a panic attack to happen. For this reason alone I wanted to try to train myself to drink less, or switch entirely to alternatives. But if you’re anything like me your love affair with coffee is addictive and steamy, and not an easy one to break free from. Luckily though, I’ve found some very promising candidates that I’m willing to share with you! #ThankMeLater
First up on the list is the stellar world of mushrooms and their magical way of tasting just like coffee.
Four Sigmatic
Seriously now, where have you been all my life? Why didn’t anyone think of this sooner!? Genius. Beyond just regular old portabellas, entering into the world of exotic mushrooms from the wilderness of Finland, a whole entire mushroom kingdom exists. Known for increasing immunity, energy, and overall longevity, this is the world of Reishi, Chaga, Cordyceps, and Lion’s Mane.
Don’t worry, drinking mushrooms is not as scary as you think, and there are plenty of other adaptogens in there to mix things up too. Four Sigmatic offers so many different kinds of products, there really is something for everyone. My favorite go-tos are Mushroom Coffee with Lion’s Mane to help focus and create, and Mushroom Coffee with Cordyceps to completely achieve productivity. (Yes, there is still coffee in both of these, but only about half a cup, because it’s baby steps you guys!)
Other products include mushroom elixirs (no caffeine at all), and superfood blends for wellness. Four Sigmatic isn’t just products either, it’s a whole huge mission, and a teaching community called The Mushroom Academy! Basically, you don’t have to hate mushrooms anymore.

Matcha
But wait, it keeps getting better! I’m sure you’ve heard of matcha by now, you know the green powder stuff that is kind of like green tea? Matcha is a great way to try to fight the coffee cravings in the morning or even the afternoon. There is still caffeine in matcha, but there is also an amino acid called L-Theanine, which is of the relaxing nature, and helps balance your energy and the effects of caffeine in your body. Really, matcha basically has super powers because it can make you feel relaxed, focused and energized all at once.
Now it is a different taste to get accustomed to, and it does (in my opinion) taste more like actual plants and is a type of green tea. But there are a lot of ways you can blend it with other adaptogens or even nut milks to add great creamy flavor you can enjoy all day.
Four Sigmatic has matcha too! Win-Win.
Coconuts and coffee: CAcafe
Coconuts. Are. Everything! So many amazing new coconut driven products are coming out of nowhere, but what better products than those you can sip on! The taste of this alone is enough to wean me off of coffee, it’s SOO creamy and delicious. There are different flavors too! Did you know chocolate and coconut pair very well together?
Sweetened or unsweetened, take your pick, it’s all made with real coconuts and premium Colombian coffee. Mix with hot water and enjoy! I love making a nice warm cup of this in the winter, sipping on the couch, cuddling up with the fur babies. I’m a sucker for the creamy chocolatey flavor or the mocha flavor. You want to know what my favorite part is though? It’s dairy free, gluten free, with no preservatives or artificial ingredients!
Coconuts are a miracle food, and benefit so many different parts of your body! #PourCoconutOilOverYourEntireLife FOR REAL. From your hair to your skin, your nails, immune system, digestion, weight, and metabolism––you really can’t go wrong here.
Kombucha
“The kale in me salutes the kombucha in you.”
We really are onto something these days with prioritizing our gut health! Your gut is your second brain after all, and you’ve got to take care of it. Coffee isn’t the easiest on everyone’s digestive system, so when you start switching your morning routine to kombucha, and the powerful fighting powers of probiotics, your world can truly start to change.
Naturally, kombucha is very beneficial to the liver and aids in detoxification in the body due to being high in glucaric acid. Kombucha helps you take in food more easily and provides you with quick energy that doesn’t involve any caffeine. The probiotics in kombucha work hard to improve your gut health and strengthen your immune system to make you feel more vibrant and energized. Heal your gut, heal your mind–mental clarity starts with your diet. It’s hard to operate at full speed without any mental fog, if you aren’t feeding and healing your body right too. The gut brain connection is alive and real!
I’m always on the prowl to try new products, but my current top choice is Health-Ade kombucha, the pink lady apple flavor. To me, this is the only kombucha I’ve tried that isn’t overly carbonated. With an added hint of apple cider vinegar in it and just seems to be the most friendly option I’ve found for my own sensitive digestion.
SUTRA Gold: Healing superfood lattes
“I’ve got 99 problems, but turmeric solved like 86 of them.”
This one really took me by surprise at first, I mean who would have guessed that turmeric would ever be more than just a scary yellow-orange root that sits on my spice rack collecting dust because I’m too scared to use it. But turmeric does some serious work for your body, reducing inflammation, promoting longevity, burning fat, reducing insulin, and so much more!
Science has literally confirmed that turmeric is as effective as like 14 other drugs out there, so is it really any shock that turmeric lattes are loaded with powerful medicinal properties? Curcumin is a natural anti-inflammatory found in turmeric, which helps boost brain functionality and reduce risk of dis-ease in the body. In traditional medicine, turmeric has been relied on to boost memory and increase concentration. When you pair turmeric with black pepper, you actually increase your body’s absorption rate of turmeric by 2000%.
The best product out there that I’ve found for these turmeric ‘golden’ latte’s is Sip Sutra. It provided me the natural energy boost I needed in a gentle and creamy way. Good turmeric lattes are usually infused with other great plant power superfoods, included maca root for energy and preventing fatigue, (black pepper), and cayenne, which increases energy levels and enhances mood. All the while you are drinking this golden gift from the gods, you are also fighting inflammation in your body like a Marvel superhero team. This an especially great alternative to coffee if you suffer from digestive issues such as IBS.
Spoiler alert: Four Sigmatic has ‘golden’ latte’s too. What don’t they have?
One cup at a time
Whichever way you look at it, coffee will always be a controversial topic, and there will also always be new and upcoming health trends to provide you energy in different ways. If you’re looking to reduce your caffeine intake, or even switch to new superfood products, you’ve got plenty of great options to try. As with anything, changes to your daily routine will take time. You will want to stick to a new product, or gradually start to reduce your coffee intake over time. They say it takes 21 days to break (or change) a habit, and I really stand by that with anything!
“I don’t drink coffee to wake up, I wake up to drink coffee!”
Just think, a year from now there will probably be five new amazing superfoods we wouldn’t have thought to be mainstream sources of energy we can drink in the morning. What warm energizing beverages will we be addicted to next?
