I have a question.
Do you spend your days daydreaming and wanting something you don’t have?
Or, do you spend your days transforming dreams into actionable plans from a place of already having what you want?
I know what you’re thinking: How can I possibly pretend I have what I don’t have?
Here’s an extremely short story for ya:
I went from full-time dreamer to full-time achiever the night I started my online business. I wanted to create something extraordinary for myself. I always knew there was something more to life than putting in the hours for my boss at my 9 to 5.
I mean, there had to be more to life.
So, let me ask you again…
- Do you dream?
- Do you have something tugging at your heartstrings telling you you’re made for more?
- Do you want to go from a total dreamer to a doer?
1. Makeover your mindset
Before we do anything, we have to get your mindset on the right track, girl.
Everything starts with the way you think.
Any dream you want to manifest into reality starts with thinking supportive and hopeful thoughts about it.
This is what I mean when I say practice believing that which you don’t yet have.
Believe it is possible for you and you shall be blown away by all the possibilities that’ll make an appearance if you shift your mindset just a tad.
Here’s a breakdown of how the world works:
- Our thoughts create our emotions.
- Our emotions fuel our actions.
- Our actions determine our results.
Stay with me, dreamer.
Everything you do in life is because of the way you feel.
The results you have in your life right in this very moment can be traced back to a thought you have thought in the past.
If you’re not yet living your dream life it’s because you haven’t had the belief that it is possible for you.
Once you know this, you can make the effort to change your current belief system to better support the results you want in your life.
If you take action from a place of feeling motivated and believing you’re capable, you will have amazing results in your life. There is absolutely no doubt about it.
Your results will always confirm your beliefs.
You have to makeover your mindset first. This is the most important step when going through the transformation of the dreamer to doer.
It all starts with the sentences you have in your head.
2. Set specific goals
Setting goals is the heart and the foundation of going from dreamer to doer.
Without goals, there is no direction and we need that GPS to be able to move forward, create clarity and turn our plans into actual results.
To have amazing results, you need to set amazing goals.
And not just any goals – specific goals.
For example:
Don’t just write down a generic goal like, “I want to have a successful online business.”
What does success mean to you? Is it $50.000 in revenue, $100.000, or 5 happy clients?
Niche down your goal and make it uber-specific.
What do you want to achieve and by when?
3. Say hello to your new supportive habits
Implementing supportive habits that boost the likelihood of you succeeding at your goal is a must.
Habits come in all shapes and sizes.
Have a look at your life as it is now and evaluate how your current habits are supporting your dreams and goals.
If they don’t, it’s time to change it up, girl.
For example:
Let’s say your goal is to start an online business so you can quit your soul-sucking day job.
What habits can you implement that align with this goal?
Perhaps you can…
- Wake up early and work on your business before your day-job (Ex. from 6 AM to 8 AM)
- Meditate for 10 minutes for clarity and creativity
- Do mindset work to get into the right space for entrepreneurship (or a badass side-hustler)
Having supportive habits and routines in place is what will give you results.
You have to continue to show up for yourself and be consistent with everything you do.
These habits will accumulate over time and give you the results of your dreams.
Small changes, big results.
4. Planning like a queen
Once you’ve got your routines and habits that support your goal in place, it’s time for my favorite part of the dreamer to doer transformation: the planning phase.
This is when you turn into a complete planning maniac – like yours truly.
Planning is amazing and so much fun. But it’s easy to go overboard with planning.
Too much planning is just procrastination in disguise.
You need one planner and that’s it.
I’ve got a major crush on my Productivity Planner and I use Google Calendar to schedule everything.
This is how I plan out my week (and how you can do it too!):
Step 1 – I write down all my to-do’s on a piece of paper. (Yes, with the old fashioned pen and paper)
Step 2 – I transform my to-do list into a results list.
I focus on the results I want to produce and not just the activity.
For example:
Activity: “Work on online business.”
Result: “Write a guest post for Life Goals Mag about chasing dreams and becoming a total doer.”
See the difference?
Get really specific about the results you want to produce. That way, you know exactly what is expected of you.
Step 3 – I prioritize my results list.
I arrange my results list in order of importance, starting with the result that will push the needle for my goal.
Step 4 – I schedule all the results in a given timeframe on my calendar.
I recommend you give yourself less time than you think you’ll need. More often than not, we give ourselves way too much time to complete a task. Enter perfectionism and procrastination.
Learn to be okay with putting your “decent” work out there – it doesn’t have to be perfect at your very first try, it just has to get done.
This is how you produce more in less time.
5. Taking action
You’ve got your plans in place, scheduled on your calendar and now it’s time to take action.
There are two types of action-taking.
Let’s distinguish the difference.
Passive action
Taking passive action is when you consume, learn and let yourself become inspired by reading, watching and listening.
Examples of passive action:
- YouTubing
- Netflixing
- Pinteresting
- Reading books
- Listening to podcasts
- Enrolling in an online course
- And so on.
Passive action is amazing, however, you will not get results by only taking passive action.
You also need…
Massive action
To get your dream results, you need to take massive action.
I love how Brooke Castillo so amazingly puts it…
“Massive action is when you take action until you get your desired result.”
You don’t stop and you show up every single day to move closer to your dream life.
10 minutes is better than no minutes at all.
For example:
I wake up at 5:30 AM every morning and it’s not always sunshine and roses, but I do it because I know it is how I will get my dream result of running a successful online business.
Massive action comes with obstacles, problems and discomfort.
This is all part of the process. Once we open ourselves up to massive action we also give up the lease on our comfort zone.
The bumps in the road that come with massive action taking and putting yourself out there is to be expected.
When you set goals, you also set obstacles.
6. Dealing with bumps in the road
The road to your dreams will never be bump-free.
You will take detours and maybe even experience a minor car crash on the way to your dream destination.
I want you to know that this is all part of it and that nothing has gone wrong.
This is how life is designed – it’s all 50/50.
We need this contrast to be able to know what amazing feels like.
If there were no negative emotions we wouldn’t be able to pinpoint how positive emotions felt.
Problems and overcoming obstacles is how we evolve, grow and learn.
The way to deal with obstacles is simple.
Expect obstacles to happen, plan for them and turn the obstacles into strategies instead.
For example:
- Imagine all the things that could potentially go wrong when starting an online business.
- Write it all down on a piece of paper.
- Evaluate your list of obstacles.
- Ask yourself how you can turn these obstacles into strategies instead.
Most of the time the solution is easier than we think. Planning for trouble ahead of time surely makes the road to your dreams smoother.
Going from a total dreamer to doer is not an overnight transformation. It requires you to constantly put in the work.
If you make the commitment to show up as your best self and apply these tips to your life every day, you will witness a gradual shift in your life and personal growth.
It’s all about getting started.
I know you’ll have amazing results.
You got this, dreamer doer.
